Tic Tok Toe is designed to wake more of your brain than just an audible alarm clock. It challenges you to a simple but moving, rotating and scaling game of tic-tac-toe some number of times before the alarm ends. This short activity stimulates the brain to overcome "sleep inertia" and/or being in a deep sleep phase so you wake up refreshed and alert!
Sleep inertia is a physiological state characterized by a decline in motor dexterity and a subjective feeling of grogginess immediately following an abrupt awakening. The impaired alertness may interfere with the ability to perform mental or physical tasks, like falling back to sleep in the morning or using the snooze button longer than you should.
Reaction time performance is directly related to sleep stage at awakening; persons awakened during the deepest sleep have the slowest reaction times.
